Massage for Veterans and First Responders: Our Partnership with Revolution Fitness

Massage for veterans and first responders is about more than a day off. It's about giving people who carry heavy loads a real chance to rest, and that's why Hands of Eden is proud to partner with Revolution Fitness, a nonprofit supporting military personnel and first responders here in Southern Maine.

Here's who Revolution Fitness is, why this partnership matters to us, and how massage can fit into a recovery routine for those who serve.

Meet Revolution Fitness

Revolution Fitness is a Southern Maine nonprofit dedicated to healing and strengthening active and retired military personnel, first responders, and their families, physically, nutritionally, and mentally. It was co-founded by Bill Merchant and Jon Ross, who met at a local gym and bonded over a shared passion for fitness and service.

Their approach treats the whole person: body, mind and spirit. Programs include customized strength and conditioning led by certified professionals, personalized plans to support performance and long-term health, nutrition education, and workshops, coaching and peer support to build mental resilience. Revolution Fitness also counts the Travis Mills Foundation as a friend and partner, connecting the people they serve with even more resources.

What stands out most is the community. The people in their program aren't just clients. They're teammates who show up for each other.

Why This Partnership Matters to Us

Veterans and first responders spend their careers taking care of everyone else. The physical side of that work adds up: long shifts, heavy gear, years of training, old injuries and not nearly enough rest. The mental load adds up too.

At Hands of Eden, veterans and first responders are some of the clients we care most about serving. Revolution Fitness is already doing the hard, meaningful work of helping them rebuild strength and resilience. Massage is a natural fit alongside that work, and partnering with them lets us support the same people from a different angle.

How Massage Fits Into Recovery for Those Who Serve

Massage isn't a replacement for training, nutrition or mental health care. It's a complement to them. Here's where it helps:

Recovering from training

When you're following a strength and conditioning plan, muscles get worked hard. Deep tissue massage helps tight, overworked muscles relax and eases stiffness between sessions.

Unwinding from the job

Swedish massage is slower and calmer. For people who spend their shifts on high alert, an hour of quiet, focused time to unwind can make a real difference in how they feel afterward.

Better rest

Many clients say they sleep better after a massage. Good rest is one of the most important parts of any recovery routine.

Mobility

Stretch therapy can be added to any session to help with flexibility and range of motion, especially for bodies carrying years of wear from the job.

Massage That Comes to You

Hands of Eden is a mobile massage service. Javere Shaw, a licensed massage therapist since 2017 with more than eight years of experience, brings everything to you, anywhere in our Southern Maine service area.

That matters for this community. Shift schedules are unpredictable, driving across town to a spa isn't always realistic, and a lot of people who serve value privacy. With mobile massage, you recover on your own schedule, in your own space.

A Two-Way Partnership

This is a two-way referral partnership. When Revolution Fitness members want hands-on recovery support, they know where to find a trusted massage therapist. When we meet veterans, service members or first responders who could benefit from Revolution Fitness's programs and community, we send them their way.

We share the same belief: those who serve deserve more than thanks. They deserve real support.
